WHY ACADEMIC ADVISING:
Being a first generation student, I had to learn how to navigate the higher education system on my own. After joining EOPS at Oxnard College (OC), I met with an amazing team of counselors that equipped me with the tools to successfully navigate through OC and California State University, Northridge (CSUN).
I am excited to help other students learn how to navigate the complexities that the higher education system brings. I want to help students explore their academic interests, pursue opportunities and promote their growth holistically.
HOBBIES/INTERESTS:
I enjoy hiking, camping, and being outdoors with my family and dog, Rocket. I also love to bake and try new cooking recipes. I love spending time with my family, friends and Nico (my cat).

EDUCATION:
Oxnard College, 2022
Associate of Science - Transfer: Sociology
CSU Channel Islands, 2025
Bachelor of Arts: Sociology
Master of Science: Counseling with PPS Credential, In Progress
WHY ACADEMIC ADVISING:
I was once a student not knowing which direction to go in. I did not know that I could lean on a team for support. I want students to know that I am here to cheer them on and to support them throughout their academic journey at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø!
HOBBIES/INTERESTS:
I love the beach and bodyboarding; anything makeup; being a mami; and most recently - reading!

Jeanette Quijas, Graduate Intern, Graduate Studies Center
EDUCATION:
Oxnard College, 2021
Associate of Arts: Sociology
UC Santa Barbara, 2024
Bachelor of Arts: Sociology
Minor: Spanish & Applied Psychology
California Lutheran University, In Progress
Master of Science: Counseling & College Student Personnel
WHY ACADEMIC ADVISING:
Visualizing this career path, I am greatly inspired by the first-generation college experience and how many of these students are often disadvantaged due to the absence of cultural capital on institutional knowledge. As a first-generation Latina college student on my way to earning a master's degree, I have experienced this firsthand. This has allowed me to understand what it’s like to navigate higher education without clear guidance or much familiarity with institutional resources.
Reflecting on my experiences, I found myself drawn to becoming a resource for students navigating higher education. I aim to transform myself into an aid, serving as a pillar of support by meaningfully contributing to students' academic and personal development.
HOBBIES/INTERESTS:
In my free time, I enjoy watching movies and shows from all genres and mediums, attending concerts, and listening to music.

I found myself drawn to helping students navigate their own paths, discover their goals, and feel supported along the way.
HOBBIES/INTERESTS:
